The Town of The Blue Mountains invited us to capture their annual Open Fields Farm Tour, a community event showcasing five unique farms in the region. This initiative offers residents and visitors a chance to explore the dedication and effort it takes to run a modern farm while connecting with the agricultural roots of the area.
This year’s featured farms included Ardiel Acres, Blue Mountain Fruit Company, Dreamfield Holsteins, Kimber Valley Farms, and Spy Cider & Distillery. Our team provided both photography and videography, focusing on highlighting the distinct character of each farm and candidly and documentary style of capturing the event's authentic, educational, and community-driven spirit.
Dreamfield Holsteins
Started our day off at Dreamfield Holsteins, it’s a dairy farm located in the Blue Mountains. It has been a family farm since 1963 and is now operated by the second and third generations. Over the years, there have been updates to the farm, which milks around 48 cows, raising all replacements and growing all the feed for the herd. They provided tours of the farm and a wagon ride around the property. There was live music from Kailey Jane Hawkins and Josh Fletcher, free face painting.

Kimber Valley Farms
Our Second stop of the day was Kimber Valley Farms located on Beaver Valley Road in Kimberley. Kimber Valley farms is known for their flock of Icelandic Sheep. Kimber Valley farms hosted an open house featuring weaving, spinning, and felting demonstrations, freshly shorn fleece from their flock, mini farm tours to learn about their unique Viking Sheep.

Ardiel Acres
Third stop of the day was the Ardiel Acres farm. The Ardiels have been growing apples in The Blue Mountains for over a century. Each generation has committed to growing new varieties and adopting new planting techniques with the goal of producing the elusive “perfect orchard.” The tour featured live music from Sandy Harron and Drew McIvor, free balloon twisters, and activities with the Blue Mountains Public Library.

Spy Cider & Distillery
Our last stop of the day was the 78 acres of old and new orchards and a small batch distillery onsite, Spy Cider and Distillery. During the tour guests could explore the orchard and learn about the state-of-the-art equipment from Head Cidermaker and Distiller Martha Lowry. After the tour guests could participate in free axe throwing at the AXED trailer, enjoy live music from Marshall Veroni and Ian Robinson, take part in activities with the Blue Mountains Public Library.
